One of them nobody’s really talking about, including Apple, and it might be the best one of them all for audio nerds! The first thing we get into is Logic Pro 11’s new “Stem Split”, which sound incredibly good for a v1 of Apple’s stem splitting technology. From a mastering perspective - if I just want to process something on the vocal, I can use stem split to isolate the vocals on their own track and simply add the plugins to that track. Incredible workflow! Next I talk about the Bass and Keyboard Session Players - Apple’s new AI assistant players. We’ve had “Session Drummer” for a while, and now they’ve added a bassist and keyboard player. You can simply turn them on and let them go wild, or you can use Apple’s new chord track to write your own chord changes for these players to follow. After that we take a look at Chromaglow, which is Apple’s new saturation plugin that models tubes, tape, preamps and more. In the video, I run some test tones through Chromaglow to see what it’s doing. Specifically, I run some models to see if I can accurately recreate $25,000 worth of high end analog tube mastering equipment. With the help of some tasteful dither (used in a way you typically don’t use dither), I was able to match the sonic profile of my mastering equipment. The last thing (and the thing I most people aren’t really talking about) is Logic Pro 11’s new feature “Bounce In Place” for External Instruments. This is a GREAT new feature that allows a realtime bounce-in-place to print tracks in your session through both plugins AND outboard equipment.
