It is the most popular and sacred practice among Buddhists. The Pali word for chanting is paritta'. The recitation of parittas is called 'paritta sajjhāyana. 'Sajjhāyana' means to recite with concentration. The commentators give a definition on paritta as follows. "Parisamantato tāyati rakkhatīti parittam" - That which safeguards and gives all around protection is called paritta. It is believed that this word paritta is a created word from the Sanskrit word'paritrāna', which is derived from the root 'tra to protect. A Sanskrit Dictionary by Sir Monier Williams gives several meaning for 'paritrāna as rescue, preservation, deliverance from, protection or means of protection, and refuge. For many reasons, Buddhist chanting is essentially connected with all life-events of Buddhists from birth to death and even after one's death. So, what is the reason for its great popularity among the Buddhist followers around the world? Buddhists believe that the Buddha is the greatest protector for them and there is no any God or supernatural power greater than the Buddha. They only consider the Triple Gem and Bodhisattvas as their refuge. Therefore, Buddhists always believe that they can get blessings by chanting the qualities of the Triple Gem. In the Jaya Paritta, Buddha is venerated as one who is capableof averting all harm and danger. The BlessedOne, the Supreme Enlightened Buddha, possesses the power to bring happiness, wisdom, mindfulness, glory and victory. He is the possessor of endless virtues and merit, and is capable of averting all dangers". The reason for this miraculous power is paritta-s are said to have been delivered by the Buddha establishing the "Wheel of Command" within ten hundred thousand world systems. If a Buddhist encounters with whatever bad luck such as illness, calamities, and disasters and so on, Pirít chanting is performed as a kind of therapy for him. Therefore, Pirit chanting is one of the common remedies utilized to counter-act the ill-effects caused by calamities and misfortunes. May each and everyone and every sentient being be protected by the blessings of this protective chanting....! pirith, seth pirith, seth pirith (සෙත් පිරිත්),පිරිත්,pirith sinhala, sabba papassa akaranam gatha,සෙත් පිරිත්,pirith deshana, pirith sinhala full, pirit, jaya piritha,පිරිත් දේශනා,kavi bana, seth pirith (සෙත් පිරිත්) mahamevnawa, bana, piritha, seth kavi, sethpirith, set pirith, thun suthraya, maha piritha, sath pirith, pireth, nawagraha santhiya, sinhala pirith, pirith desana
