The surprise is that the game is surprisingly solid. The characters are fairly unique, all of them have super moves (a fairly new feature in fighters at the time), a unique super bar I haven't seen before or since, and I believe it's the first fighting game to have a survival mode (called trial mode here). In case people don't understand the super meter, I'll explain it. The meter constantly fills, resets, then fills again. Performing a special when the meter is full does a stronger version of the move (think Darkstalkers). Doing three full- power moves puts the player in super mode. While in super mode, all moves are full power and the player can use that character's super move.
