NewJeans debuted in mid-2022 out-of-nowhere. No pre-hype, no trailers, no promotions. Yet, despite having no marketing the group quickly ascended as one of the top female groups in under a year. Debuting under ADOR, a subsidiary of Hybe, NewJeans’ retro, synth, 90s R&B vibes resonated with many fans, as the group racked up millions of views and won several end-of-the-year awards. While NewJeans’ songs are certified bangers, the 90s theme oozes nostalgia, and the girls are great on their own, I would say those two are not the biggest reasons why the group exploded in such a short time. Rather, the biggest reasons are because of ADOR’s CEO, Min Hee-jin, and ADOR’s marketing.
