Cantonese Corner: Why I left Hong Kong 😓 🇭🇰

Hi there, So this is my video where I kind of say why I left Hong Kong. Just me rambling on in my little Cantonese Corner of my sofa. :) I was inspired to do it by Navigate HK and I have to say it was kind of cathartic. This time last year, I was getting ready to go back to Hong Kong, do my three-week quarantine, and report back to work to finish out my contract. Just one day after quarantine was over, however, I was told I was no longer needed at work. So yeah, that was really the nail in the coffin. I had planned to finish out my contract (til Dec. 2021) and then consider my options, but suddenly being told I was no longer needed in any way, shape or form was sobering. So it's been a year, and I feel like now I can officially move on -- at least enough to where I'm at least posting again and actually looking forward to it. Although posting this video is hard as it's kind of personal and I share things I haven't before (at least I don't think I have). (Plus, I gotta say it's annoying living in the US now because we're BEHIND Hong Kong ... I always loved being AHEAD of the US and pretty much 90% of the world in terms of time, but now when I record a video and post it the next day, it's even LATER than I used to from HK. LOL .... just another thing I have to get used to living over here! :) As others who have left Hong Kong have related, there really isn't one reason to have left, there are many (and even more for me than I go into here). It's actually very complicated and not a day goes by that I wish I were still in HK, even though I know I made the right decision to leave for me. So for me, the reasons include: 1. Family. 2. My time was up. (self-preservation) 3. It is now too restrictive. 4. There's only really one way in and out, which freaks me out. 5. I lost my job (I suppose this was a big reason, but I barely remembered to include it here lol) So that's it! I am looking forward to becoming more a part of helping to "save Cantonese" by posting more videos and teaching more lessons. I've also signed up to volunteer at www.savecantonese.org and look forward to being more involved by promoting Cantonese more where I live and also online. Take care and if you're learning Cantonese and/or mahjong -- Happy Learning, as always! :) See you soon, Sue IG & FB: @cantonesecorner PS. Like and subscribe if you haven't already :)
