Congratulations Dr. Michelle Fenwick New Jersey’s 2023 Special Education Administrator of the Year

Join us in paying tribute to New Jersey’s 2023 Special Education Administrator of the Year. NJASA, NJAPSA and Frontline Education recognize outstanding leaders in special education... …and this year’s award recipient is Dr. Michelle Fenwick, Director of Special Programs for the Ridgewood Public Schools. Dr. Fenwick has served the special education community for more than 30 years. She has been an educator, speech language specialist, New Jersey state monitor, principal, and special education administrator. Her mission is to model dignity and empathy while providing support to students with special needs. She helps them recognize their strengths to foster independence and success as lifelong learners and productive members of an inclusive community. Dr. Fenwick established a robust special education program in Ridgewood that enables students to remain in their home district rather than being sent out. She increased specialized programs within the district, gaining recognition from the New Jersey School Board for two initiatives: a Program for Emotional Regulation and Impairment, and a School Transition and Employment Program for Student Success. The latter was an independent off-campus program for students aged 18 to 21. Dr. Fenwick has secured grants to support gains in inclusive programming. This includes ABA-supported learning, structured literacy, and social emotional learning. She is a frequent presenter on special education, and works to promote and model best practices. She has cultivated a learning environment that is exciting and supportive, and provides staff with the professional development and resources they need to support and promote the unique needs of Ridgewood students.
