V.Kosenko - Piano Concerto, Op. 23 (Nikulin, Rjanov) [Christmas Special No. 1]

One of the grandest, most bombastic, and ultra-romantic of the great Russians piano concertos. The piano concerto was written in three movements by the composer, but during World War II some of his notes were lost, remaining intact only the first movement. The second and third movements were saved only in small details to be later finished by composers Levko Revutsky and Georgiy Maiboroda in 1937, although some sources also mention the name of Anatoly Kolomiyts. I chosed to use two performances for this concerto, one incomplete (only first movement) but where the immense cadenza (15:28) is played. This first performance is by A.Nikulin (piano) and A.Shevchukovskiy (conductor). The second performance is featuring, fortunately, all the three movements. Sadly, the immense cadenza is left unplayed. This performance is by E.Rjanov (piano) and S.Litvinenko (conductor). Nikulin : I. Allegro - 00:00 Rjanov : I. Allegro - 22:25 II.
