Amuyong PATIKIM 2022: Batch Ulayaw

Last October 31, 2022, Batch Ulayaw held their PATIKIM culminating exhibit at the Linangan Art Residency in Alfonso, Cavite. It was paneled by Ling Quisumbing, Lesley de Chaves, and Alain Camiling. Batch Ulayaw is Bryan Barrios (Valenzuela City), Julieanne Ng (Valenzuela City), Erika Mayo (Negros Occidental), Jericho Moral (Antipolo City), Raiñer Duhaylungsod (Cebu), Nicolei Gupit (California, US), Giah Delos Reyes (Iloilo) and Tyrone Espinosa (Iloilo). “Ulayaw”, pertains to heartfelt exchanges shared by friends, one can discern the thrill that flooded the residents in meeting their batchmates. Throughout their eight-week residency, not a meal passed without the chimes of banters, laughter and witty remarks. We have witnessed how lighthearted moments such as these have allowed each of them to peel layers of vulnerability necessary in enriching their practice as artists and more importantly, to remind themselves that they are supported by fellow artists as well. Perhaps the best thing about them is their eagerness to listen to each other’s stories, recognizing that they come from different places, allowing these to be points to expand their understanding of their own humanity.
