Is a GURU Really Necessary? Who is a TRUE Guru?

According to the non-dual teachings of Advaita Vedanta, the guru's words function as a pramana, a means of knowledge that can remove ignorance (ajnana) of your true nature (atma) as sat chit ananda, limitless, eternal, conscious existence, the so-called inner divinity, the actual source of contentment and happiness. Discovery of your true self is moksha, enlightenment, liberation, freedom from suffering (duhkha). The guru must be a shrotriya, one who has the skill of using the teachings of the sages of ancient India (rishis) to remove a student's ignorance. The guru must also be brahma nishtha, established in knowledge of brahman, absolute reality.
