1951 Packard 300 Ultramatic Sedan

Here’s a quick video I decided to throw together of my 51’ Packard. I picked this car up for a song about 6 months ago, and with the help of a few friends from school got her back on the road in short order. The car was mechanically in excellent shape, needing only standard tune up parts, and a fuel tank. I went through and replaced all the brake components, and as you can tell from the video they work well! The car is equipped with the 327CID straight 8, and the Ultramatic 2 speed trans. I have to say, as excellent as the car is, the trans is probably the biggest downfall of the car. Low range is far to low, really only being useful for ripping sequoias out of the ground, and high is also to low, with the car turning around 2800rpms at 60. I know driving was far different in 51’, but for modern roads it can be challenging. Other than that though, I have found it to be an excellent driving car. It tracks well, the non-power assisted brakes work well, and the engine is smooth as silk, and quite powerful. It has been a pleasure to get this car in the road!
