Set in the backdrop of Patiala, Punjab, Tanu and Rishi are childhood sweethearts. By the prophecy of a holy woman, Rishi will die at the age of 23 as he has some dosh in his birth chart. This problem could only be solved when Tanu marries Rishi. Rishi returns to India after 17 years from America. The day when they reach Patiala, a terrorist attack takes place in a college where Tanu and Ahana study. That day, Rishi is about to get hit by a bullet, but is saved by Tanu. Rishi instantly falls in love with Tanu , even he has not seen her face. Tanu and Ahana's parents die in the attack. Raj, the father of Rishi, comes to know about Tanu's parents death as he and her father were good friends. He is heartbroken after hearing this. Bani , the aunt of Tanu, comes to know about the arrival of Raj in India. She knows that they have come to India to get Rishi and Tanu married. She sends Tanu and Ahana to Mumbai. She tells Raj's family that they sent them to Mumbai for their safety. Bani's family and Raj's family fly to Mumbai to meet Tanu. Here Tanu and Rishi meet, recognize instantly, and fall in love. Bani makes her daughters Neha to act as Tanu and Swati to act as Ahana. The Bedi family believes their betrayal and agree for the engagement of Neha and Rishi. Rishi is unaware of the fact that he is getting engaged to Neha, and not Tanu. At the engagement ceremony, Rishi, Manpreet and Biji are surprised to know that Tanu is not engaged to Rishi, but instead, Neha. Tanu is heartbroken. Rishi makes understand Tanu that he doesn't know the girl whom he is engaged. Rishi proposes to Tanu and says that he loves Tanu. She refuses it and doesn't want Neha's life to be ruined.
