NYC Art supply shopping 2022

Word of warning! I know I suck at videoing. Well, at least videoing in stores and I'm just using my phone so apologies and please don't be mean. So the last trip that I made before the pandemic hit and lockdowns started was to NYC. I was there for a photography conference. It all seems like a different century now... When thinking about my first trip since Covid I thought the best place to start was where I left off. And why not make it an art supply shopping and sketching trip?! I didn't factor in the remnants of Hurricane Ian taking up residence over NY for the first 3 days (I left on the 4th when the sun came out, of course). I therefore didn't do too much outdoor sketching but I managed some in between the rain. But a little bit of rain (a lot, though at times) wouldn't keep me away from the art stores. The action plan starts as soon as I get off the train from Newark airport. Kremer pigments is nearby so before I even checked in to my hotel I was starting. I had been past this store years ago and just stared at all the pigment. Now that I make my own handmade watercolours, which you can purchase on my website, I had an excuse to go in. https://www.eileenreillyarts.com/wate... As I was travelling light (note the mini suitcase in the video) I couldn't load up too much and I was also unsure if airport security would give me a hard time about bags of pigment so I did more damage in the watercolour department and got some unique to me colours. After dropping off my bag I went to Soho Art Supplies and then to the brand new Blicks on Broadway (443). That evening I went to the bookstore Kinokuniya across from Bryant Park (1073 6th Ave). They have a stationery department in their basement and I love weird Japanese erasers and I was looking for a specific colour of washi tape. Disappointed on both counts. The erasers are gone! I took my time the next morning as my next stop, Goods for the Study (234 Mulberry - the big one and the one in the video and 50 West 8th), doesn't open until noon. I got a few things from there. I was hoping they would have a fude pen. They had a 55 degree nib pen but it was way too much. I had to be careful with prices as our dollar is usually lower than the US dollar but also some supplies were still more expensive by dollar amount than back here in Canada or from places like Jackson's. Therefore I mostly stuck to things that I couldn't really get here. I think the first Blick's that I ever went to was the one at 1-5 Bond St so I paid it a visit too but I'm sad to see that it is closing (hence the big store on Broadway). I also popped into the Strand. They have some stationery but also wonderful art books. I escaped the pelting rain and even sketched inside on the 2nd floor.
