Hello everyone, and welcome to the Logan Valley Mall in Altoona Pennsylvania! Beginning its life is an outdoor center in 1965, it would be anchored by Sears and Weis Markets. Two years later, in 1967, developers Crown American would enclose the property, and convert the existing shopping center into an indoor mall. Logan Valley, Mall Would officially began its life as an indoor mall on June 8th, 1967, with Sears, and JCPenney as its original anchors. The mall would be doing so well, that the 1970s saw two major changes with the addition of a movie theater, and an expansion adding a Hess‘s department store as a third anchor. Logan Valley Mall Would see great success throughout the 1980s, but things would halt in the 1990s. December 1994, saw a major fire break out on the property, damaging about 15 tenants on the property. Crown American would then rebuild what was damaged in the mid-1990s. The newly rebuilt portions Logan Valley Mall would be completed and reopened in 1997. During the rebuild, they made some changes, with JCPenney moving to a new larger space, and Hess’s getting converted over to a Kaufmann’s. All of these changes would be successful, and Logan Valley Mall Would continue to live on! 2003 saw Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust by the Logan Valley Mall off of Crown American, and 2006 saw Kaufman‘s get converted to Macy’s. Not much would happen in the early 2010s, however, 2017 saw Namdar Realty group by the mall off of Preit. In December 2018, Sears announced that they would be closing their Logan Malley Mall, store, and the store we close on March 3, 2019. And on July 7, 2021, AMC theaters with close their Logan Valley Mall location. Let’s take a walk through the Logan Valley Mall, and see how it’s doing on a Saturday evening!
