Florianópolis is the capital of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, in the southern region of the country. Thus, in 1894, Desterro's name was changed to Florianópolis, which means "city of Floriano", in honor of the then Brazilian president during the period of conflict. Considered by many inhabitants and tourists who visit it as having a unique beauty, endowed with strong traces of the Azorean culture, observed in buildings, handicraft, folklore, cuisine and religious traditions, Florianópolis has in its diversified tourism one of its main sources of income.
