HOW TO SEW A BUTTONHOLE

In this video we will show you how to sew a buttonhole. ►Start by placing the button where the buttonhole should be. Use chalk to mark the button size onto the fabric. If the fabric is stretchy the buttonhole may be the same size as the button, but if the fabric isn’t stretchy then make the marking slightly bigger (1/4 inch). ►Set the machine to narrow Zig-Zag stitch, and the length to the applique setting (nearly to zero). ►Start sewing on the marking point and make the first side. Leave the needle into the fabric in the right position, raise the presser foot and rotate the fabric counterclockwise. Sew a few stitches to make the bottom of the buttonhole. Then leave it through the fabric and rotate counterclockwise again. Sew the left side of the buttonhole. You can hold the upper thread of the stitch perpendicular to see where to stop sewing. Finally leave the needle into fabric again and rotate one more time to make the top part of the buttonhole. ►Take a pin and carefully place it cross-ways along the very top of the button hole. Then insert your seam-ripper carefully at the bottom of the buttonhole. Push gently upwards towards the pin, which is there to prevent the seam-ripper from tearing through the top part of the button hole. ►NOTE◄ You can repeat the process for a thicker and more solid stitching line.
