4. Machine Learning vs Materials Informatics

Is Machine Learning the same thing as Materials Informatics? That's an important question and to answer it we should consider several aspects of each and ask if they are the same such as data size, task, data heterogeneity, uncertainty quantification, featurization, and interpretability. In this video, I make the argument that in each of these cases Materials Informatics differs quite substantially from traditional Machine Learning and therefore it is worth our time to investigate the subtleties of Materials Informatics.
