Star Trek Adventure show at Universal Studios Hollywood (1989)

Star Trek® Adventure highlights from Universal Studios Tour VHS - The Holiday Video Library - American Adventure Series (1989). About Star Trek® Adventure A $7 million attraction located inside the Panasonic Theater based on the Star Trek TV series where guests volunteer to put on costumes and be placed on sets from the show. Once all scenes were captured, the finished product was shown to the audience. The audience members were also able to purchase a copy of the video. DreamWorks Theatre's 1,200-seat Panasonic Theater on the Upper Lot is the home for this popular $7 million attraction. Ten volunteers were selected from the audience, put into Star Trek costumes, placed on sets, and given lines to deliver to video cameras. Once all the scenes had been captured on video, and after a quick edit, the finished product was shown to the audience. From the 25th Anniversary Universal Studios Hollywood Brochure (1989) “Based on one of the most popular series on television, Star Trek® Adventure is our latest and greatest live-action show. At each performance, members of the audience are selected to join Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock in battling Klingons, fantastic space creatures and alien superbeings. Then only minutes later, you see these scenes videotaped and edited into actual Star Trek footage. You may go in a spectator and come out a star!” Universal Orlando had a similar attraction, which used bluescreen techniques to insert guest footage into scenes with Star Trek actors. The Hollywood version, being slightly older, simply intercut scenes shot on replica sets in the Panasonic Theater into a short film with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nicholls, and James Doohan. That series, now often known as "The Original Series", debuted on September 8, 1966, and aired for three seasons on NBC. It followed the voyages of the starship USS Enterprise, a space exploration vessel built by the United Federation of Planets in the 23rd century, on a mission "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before". In creating Star Trek, Roddenberry was inspired by C. S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower series of novels, Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, and television westerns such as Wagon Train. The Star Trek canon includes the Original Series, nine spin-off television series, and a film franchise; further adaptations exist in several media. After the Original Series's conclusion, its characters' adventures continued in the 22-episode Star Trek: The Animated Series and six feature films. A television revival beginning in the 1980s saw three sequel series and a prequel: Star Trek: The Next Generation, following the crew of a new starship Enterprise a century after the original series; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, set in the same era as the Next Generation; and Enterprise, set before the original series in the early days of human interstellar travel. The adventures of the Next Generation crew continued in four additional feature films. In 2009, the film franchise underwent a reboot, creating an alternate continuity known as the Kelvin timeline; three films have been set in this continuity. The newest Star Trek television revival, beginning in 2017, includes the series Star Trek: Discovery, Picard, Short Treks, and Lower Decks, streaming exclusively on digital platforms. At least two additional television series are developing: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Prodigy. © 1989 Finley Holiday Films Posted for entertainment and educational purposes only.
