Mark Sever's own words - The story for my project begins with my client visiting Arizona looking for a home to purchase and to retire. Every home they wanted to see that was for sale happened to be one of my homes. (truly not that many but they only considered what was on the market that happened to be mine.) They reached out to me after seeing several of my past projects. I reviewed several lots and this is where we left it years ago. They eventually retired and reached out to me to look at a site they found. I loved it as much as they did. A cul-de-sac lot with challenges defined the program. I found a solution in designing a plan based on a small resort where guests are greeted by a grand entrance surrounded by water features, beautiful landscaping and interesting structural features. My clients love to entertain. Every program requirement was about enjoying the Arizona lifestyle while creating a resort-style environment. My program used materials that are timeless and display well and are lasting. I visit them often and every time I do, they are deeply involved in a project such as making a grand meal, and I only see clients enjoying their home. My approach to architecture and building is to encourage activities where my client does not think about the materials used in their home. The materials work for them.
