When we boarded the ferry to Ischia, we had no idea we were about to be amazed by the variety of sights and things to do in this lesser-well-known island. In the 20th episode, our exploration of Italy once again takes us into Naples. We aren't visiting the city though, we are boarding a ferry to the little-known island of Ischia. A place off the beaten path recommended by the Airbnb host in Tuscany. We experience paradise in our reasonably priced spa hotel, and do a complete circumnavigation of the island in our rental car. We see amazing seaside towns with Roman and Baroque architecture & beautiful beaches. We also explore an ancient fortress that has withstood dozens of invasions. And we manage to find some out-of-the-way places as well. Ischia is the largest of the Phlegrean Islands and is much less frequented by tourists than nearby Capri. The Aragonese Castle is a must-see, with beautiful views and a long and violent history. The multitude of historic sites and volcanic features make this one of the most beautiful and special places on Earth.
