Kendall's rank correlation statistic for Geo-Scientists

Kendall's Rank Correlation statistic is included in CBCS Geography for UG 4th semester students. The “Kendall’s rank correlation coefficient”, developed by Kendall (1938), is a distribution-free statistic which is simple to calculate and can be used with very small samples, provided measurement has been achieved at least on the ordinal scale. Kendal’s rank correlation coefficient is denoted by Greek alphabet 𝝉 (tau). The value of 𝝉 (tau) varies from -1.0 and +1.0 (similar to Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Higher value indicates stronger relationship. Positive value indicates positive relationship and negative value indicates negative relationship. This is very good statistic for finding correlation between elements which are very small in size.
