While they would eventually become the Black Legion, for a time their grey green armour would march at Horus' command across the stars. Using just a quick drybrush and one or two highlights along with a couple of varnishes, you can absolutely blast through the stock infantry for your army and have them turning out pretty well! This is based on a method I've seen discussed by Forge World's Mark Bedford at one of the Horus Heresy weekends, specifically around the eight minute mark here:    • Mark Bedford - Army Painting Tips   He does mention later that it's Fleshshade rather than sepia he's using, and after experimenting I'm fairly sure that the water isn't strictly necessary. I've had some strange white chalkiness to my shades when mixing them with water before, so being able to skip it and still get this result is pretty encouraging. If you're finding the shade too dark, try adding small amounts of additional Lahmian Medium and remixing it before applying to a test piece first.
