Carlsbad Caverns National Park encompasses the largest accessible cave system in North America, 800 feet below the surface of a limestone reef on the edge of the Permian Basin. Just down the road, across the state line in Texas, Guadalupe Mountains National Park contains 8,751-foot Guadalupe Mountain, the highest point in Texas.
