JAPAN vs BRAZIL | Semi Finals Highlights | Women's VNL 2024. The semi-finals of the Volleyball Nations League 2024 were held in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday, June 22nd. The Japan Women's National Team, ranked 7th in the FIVB World Rankings (before the start of the match), faced Brazil, ranked 1st, and won with a set score of 3-2 (26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12). By winning their match against Brazil, who are in the same group as them in the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifying round, the team has secured a place in the finals and secured their first medal at this tournament. This is the first time in 10 years that the Japan Women's National Team has won a medal in an Olympic or International Volleyball Federation tournament, since winning a silver medal at the 2014 World Grand Prix. However, with incredible tenacity, they scored consecutive points to turn the game around to 25-24, and finally won the first set 26-24 with a powerful shot from Wada that deflected the opponent's block. In the second set, Koga Sarina and others played well to get the score at 5-3, and then Koga's service ace and Yamada's block point made it 9-5. Libero Fukudome continued to pick up Brazil's powerful spikes, bringing momentum to the team. Brazil also fought back to close the gap to 7-6, but Ishikawa's spike led to a court change at 8-6. Brazil fought back hard to tie the score at 9-9, but Koga and others held on and made it 10-10, not allowing the team to come back. After that, Koga scored a difficult toss from Kojima to make it 11-10, Wada's back attack made it 12-11, and Yamada's service ace put them in the lead at 13-11.
