Here's my no death run of the NES / Famicom port of Super Contra using mostly safe strats while also trying to get through the game as quick as possible. While the arcade version is a favorite of mine, I'm less familiar with the re-titled console version "Super C". I believe the title was changed to not conflate itself with the Iran-Contra scandal at the time. Compared to the arcade, this game is probably easier and only has a few truly random moments. The the huge alien heads popping up from the floor in level 6 can appear under you without warning and not give you enough time to move before taking a death. After beating the game, it loops with no increase in difficulty for subsequent playthroughs.
