A great summertime refreshing cocktail, the Rickey is an often overlooked “oldie” porch-sipper and so easy to make. It is a more watered down version of the Lynchburg Lemonade, using both soda water and a lemon-lime soda like Sprite or 7up. Way before there were Ready-to-Drink seltzers, there were Rickeys. 1350 Distilling’s variation is called the Life Buoy using our Guardian Bourbon (originally dedicated to the US Coast Guard) and we use Rocky Mt. Soda’s Lemon-Lime Soda because it is made with cane sugar and not high fructose corn syrup. What do you mean by “purists”. The man with the fancy mustache may say that the bourbon should join the muddled mint and lemon juice and be stirred all together before the ice. This is so the alcohol is not diluted in the process. It is totally up to you. Either way, once you put the ice and sodas in, you will want to stir it all together again. LIFE BUOY - BOURBON RICKEY A highball glass is recommended so the ice keeps the cocktail colder longer. • Muddle lemon and mint in the glass • Add Ice • 1.75 oz Bourbon • 1.75 oz Lemon Lime Soda • 2 oz Soda Water - or fill the rest of the glass up Stir ingredients in glass and enjoy!
