Quick Tip: Favorite Cartridges & Loads

We've assembled the Triple Threat of Brownells Gun Techs - Caleb, Keith and Steve - to tell us about their favorite cartridges and handloads for them. Caleb favors the 9mm Luger (9mm Parabellum, 9x19mm) loaded with a 124 grain Federal Hydra-Shok bullet. His rifle round of choice is the 6.5 Grendel with a 123 grain Hornady SST bullet motivated by Reloder 10x. The Grendel fits the standard .223/5.56 AR-15 platform, yet outperforms 7.62x51 NATO in certain circumstances! Keith's favorites: the .300 Blackout with a 185 grain subsonic bullet for sound-suppressed shooting; the .308 Winchester / 7.62x51 NATO with a 168 grain bullet and Lake City brass; and what he calls the "Real Six Five" - the 6.5x55mm Swedish (aka 6.5 Swede) with a 140 grain Lapua bullet. It was the Swedish military's cartridge for a century, and it's also excellent for hunting game as large as moose and reindeer. Steve loves the .44 Special with a 245 grain Elmer Keith wadcutter powered by Alliant Unique, and a .357 Magnum loaded with either the Lyman 358439 or Keith cast hollowpoint driven by a healthy dose of Alliant 2400. On the rifle side, he favors two lever action rounds: the Winchester .30-30 and .32 Special with 150 and 170 grain bullets, respectively, and powered by IMR 3031 have more than enough oomph to bring home some venison.
