I recommend using it as your second step towards learning the handstand once you are comfortable holding a frog stand for at least 20 seconds. I think a lot of people neglect the headstand simply because the upper body requirements are minimal, or perhaps because it’s a yoga pose and I know not everyone is into yoga. Regardless, the headstand is useful and definitely should not be ignored. For a beginner who wants to learn how to handstand, the tripod headstand is perfect because it allows you to put an emphasized focus on your core and lower body. Since the head and torso are supported by the “tripod” (top of head and hands on the floor), you can really focus on the mind-muscle connection for holding the abs, lower back, glutes and thighs contracted while holding yourself inverted. This will translate well into freestanding handstands later on in your training. I hope the video is helpful in your pursuit of the handstand.
