55009 Alycidon roars to the capital | The Capital Deltic Reprise - 29.07.23

Operating a tour on behalf of Pathfinder Railtours, Deltic No. 55009 Alycidon would travel on its old stomping ground of the ECML on a tour to London. Starting at Willington, the train would reach Kings Cross via Sheffield, Doncaster, Selby, Peterborough and Cambridge. The return would travel to Cleethorpes, before reversing to Ulceby. Here the train would reverse again to return to Willington. Running half an hour down, due to a coach originally missing in the consist, Alycidon is seen on the fast lines at Hatfield. With the delay we expected to be clear of the service train due to block our view, and we were...with enough time for the next one to turn up, which thankfully didn't completely block the view of the Deltic passing. After dropping the passengers at Kings Cross, the ECS lead by 47826 is seen passing Finsbury park, heading for Ferme Park sidings. Finally, the return is seen in some brilliant sunshine, as Alycidon heads through the fast lines at Hadley, tones blazing, and requiring some assistance from the Class 47 at the rear.
