The 32x needed all of the exclusive games it could get, so Xmen: Mind Games should have been a critical release for the system. Unfortunately, this prototype is as close as we got to a full release. As one of the most popular franchises of the era, it was a clear fit for the audience and an excellent way of adding to the libraries of individual machines. The 32x was released during this era and needed all the help it could get. A victim of struggles both internal and external, it needed exciting games to help promote it against the established systems as well as the new wave of 32-bit disc-based consoles. X-Men: Mind Games was in develoment for the 32x by Zyrinx but never made it to market. A leaked prototype shows the ambition of the developer though, using the additional power of the hardware to push a 3D world for players to explore and battle within. The prototype is barebones and not hugely engaging beyond the first few minutes, but as a proof of concept it shows promise. Would it have been a good game in the end?
