#acolyte #starwars #disneyplus After watching the first episode of the new Acolyte series from Disney+, it’s safe to say that this Star Wars entry will not be remembered fondly by the fanbase. The episode starts off with a fight between a hooded force user and everyone’s favorite Matrix character, Trinity. Trinity gets laughably killed, which prompts an investigation into her murder. The chief suspect? Osha, a former Jedi padawan who has since become a mechanic. And why is she suspected? Because she looks just like the gal who killed Trinity. We find out later that Osha has a twin. After being brought into custody, the prisoner transport Osha is on gets taken over by the prisoners because the Jedi are incompetent and put a cyborg hacker on a fully automated ship. The ship goes down, which leads to Osha’s old teacher, Master Sol, to look for her at the crash site of the prisoner transport, where Osha apparently got a hurt leg in the crash. Pretty lucky considering the ship spun out of control through the atmosphere of a planet and collided with the surface. After a fugitive-like scene, Sol decides Osha is innocent and takes her with him and his Jedi companions. The writing of this series is subpar, and the acting is lacking in most respects. And while I could say that I admire the number of practical effects with the creatures and the set designs, the ultimate question that should be asked is, “Who cares?” After all, a pretty set does not a good story make. And it’s a shame really, because the overall concept of this story is compelling, an assassin systematically killing Jedi masters. I like that as a story. Leslye Headland simply can’t deliver on this interesting idea. Now, as time goes on, we will be releasing full-episode breakdowns that pull each scene to pieces, showcasing where this series fails, and where it succeeds. Unfortunately, the ladder is less likely.
