And for very good reason - it sounds incredible on just about any source from vocals, to drums, to bass guitars - you name it! There have also been countless clones of this preamp over the years at various price points from insanely affordable, to high end, so I figured it would make a good comparison video to pitch 2 mic preamps against each other at opposite ends of the price brackets. At the lower end we have a Golden Age Project Pre73 DLX. These are great preamps based on the 1073 circuit, and they only cost around £400. As a result they are made to a budget, with cheaper components and cheaper transformers. To compare, we're going to listen to it next to a genuine Neve 1073 DPD. This is the real deal with that classic sound, and classic transformers and these cost around £2500. Does the Neve sound so much better than the Golden Age Project?
