SOPHIA‘S HUNGARIAN GP IN F3 2023 | the overtaker | racegirl

For Sophia Flörsch (22), the seventh of nine race weekends of the Formula 3 season is on the agenda this weekend. In Budapest, the driver from Munich will once again be competing in the Formula 1 supporting programme, with the aim of finishing among the top 20 of more than 30 drivers. One thing is certain: Qualifying at the Hungaroring is almost as decisive as in Monaco. "Qualifying is extremely important in Hungary because there are so few overtaking opportunities," says the PHM Racing by Charouz driver. "In addition, it is supposed to be very hot, which goes on the tyres. But I'm optimistic: we worked well in the simulator, I focused strongly on qualifying performance." The German still has the weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg in mind. There she raced to ninth place before her car was disqualified because the end plates on the front wing did not comply with the rules. "Coming from 21st on the grid and crossing the finish line in ninth place was very special," she says. "It was a push for me personally and for the whole team. It also showed again that our race pace is really good and that we finally have to improve in qualifying." Flörsch, on the other hand, takes the withdrawal of the points sportingly: "In general, the season is going as planned," she says. "We had planned to finish in the points. We managed to do that at the Red Bull Ring. That this was taken away from us is extremely unfortunate and sobering. Nevertheless, in my eyes we crossed the finish line in ninth place and nobody can take that away from us." In general, the PHM driver sees progress in her performance in her Formula comeback - also thanks to Alpine's Formula 1 team, in whose junior programme she is. Sophia: "Alpine helps me extremely, advises me in regular calls and goes through data with me. I definitely think I've become a better racer this year." Budapest: 4.381km track length Feature race: 19 laps = 83.239km Fastest lap: 1m 31.761 / 2019 Feature race: P18 / started P28 = gained 10 positions Sprint race: P15 / started P28 = gained 13 positions Qualifying: P28 / +3,675 to P1 - wtf Free Practive: P23 / +1,864 to P1 Have fun watching!
