The Forgotten County: Erased From History

We walk around the lost county of Winchcombeshire in search of why it lasted around 10 years! Usual notices: 1. We are not historians. We enjoy researching and learning, and with that we enjoy sharing our journeys with you. That said, sources for information often listed below with credits. 2. Errors. Whilst we make every attempt to not include any errors, research, and piecing stories together from dozens of sources sometimes leads to one or two. I will note here if any are found: A. Yup, towards the end I was very tired. I took a thousand takes to get some of those lines out and messed up the pronunciation of Winchcombeshire a ew times! B. How to pronounce "Shire". In the modern sense we clearly use "shur", as in Hampshire. My guess is that owning to more older county pronunciations such as Somersetshire being more "Shire", thats what I went with. C: There is confusion regarding the counties of Mercia all being named after their townsake with the exception of Shropshire and Rutland as pointed out by Whybra in his book. Many have pointed out that Shropshire was named after Shrewsbury. Whybra treats this the same as Dorset and Somerset, with Dorchester and Somerton, in that the he suggests they "are the dwellings of the people to whom the territory belonged".
