One of Brooklyn Center's notable retail buildings has a new tenant. Empire Foods opened Friday at the site of the former Brooklyn Center Walmart at Shingle Creek Crossing. The ethnic supermarket, owned by the same company that operates Sun Foods, features offerings like wild boar and boiled duck eggs. “This space is over 180,000 square feet, it's not easy to fill up," said Joe Cardoza, spokesperson for the city of Brooklyn Center. "And the fact that this was turned around in less than a year, stocked up, ready to go — I mean, it's remarkable." Walmart shuttered at the Brooklyn Center site last April.
