Bulgarian Makarov PM 9x18mm: A Cold War Icon

The Makarov PM (Pistolet Makarova) is a Soviet semi-automatic pistol developed by Nikolay Fyodorovich Makarov in 1948 and adopted by the Soviet Union in 1951. The Makarov has become a Cold War icon. Today, we chat with Anton about his handgun and why he is drawn to military surplus firearms. We also get to shoot this fun, amazing gun. Join us as we brave the wind and enjoy a beautiful sunny day while doing one of my favorite activities: learning about guns and getting to shoot them. The Makarov PM features a straightforward blowback operation and is chambered for the 9x18mm Makarov cartridge, which is slightly less powerful than the 9x19mm Parabellum (9mm Luger) used by many Western handguns. This choice of cartridge was deliberate, ensuring the pistol's ease of use and reliability. The design of the Makarov PM is noted for its simplicity, robustness, and ease of maintenance. It has a double-action trigger mechanism, a manual safety that doubles as a decocker, and a fixed barrel that contributes to its accuracy. The magazine capacity is eight rounds, and the pistol has a distinctive compact design, making it suitable for concealed carry. Over the years, the Makarov PM has been praised for its durability and effectiveness in various conditions, contributing to its widespread use beyond the Soviet Union. It was manufactured not only in the USSR but also in several other countries, including East Germany, Bulgaria, and China. The Makarov PM remained the standard sidearm of the Soviet and later Russian military and police forces until it was gradually replaced by more modern pistols like the Yarygin PYa (MP-443) in the 21st century. Despite this, the Makarov PM continues to be in service in many countries and remains popular among civilian shooters and collectors. Its legacy is marked by its influence on the design of other pistols and its reputation as a reliable and effective firearm, making it one of the iconic handguns of the 20th century. #makarov #russiangun #militarysurplus #shootingguns ------ Attribution: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S... ----- Music: -Harris Heller: Summertime Voodoo ----- Welcome to Rugged Tactical where every trigger pull tells a story and responsible gun ownership is a way of life.
