What is the meaning of the IX symbol in Christianity? When you see IX in Christian art and architecture, the letters represent the Greek letters I (iota) and X (chi), which of the first to letters of Jesus Christ: I = IESOUS (ΙΗΣΟΥΣ) X = CHRISTOS (ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ) A monogram is a combination of two or more letters as one symbol. So the I and the X are overlaid on top of one another to stand for IX (Jesus Christ). The IX (along with the Chi-Rho) are often referred to as Christograms because the Greek letters to represent the name of Jesus Christ are overlaid on top of one another as a monogram. The IX monogram can be found in architecture and burial tombs for Christians as early as the 3rd and 4th centuries. SUBSCRIBE for more Catholic videos: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c...
