While it's not necessarily considered a Mt Cook hike, we've done the Hooker Valley Track in summer, so decided this time on taking the walk again in winter to see the difference. It might not be THE best walk in New Zealand, but tell ya what, it's our favourite! The Hooker Valley Track Walk is the most popular walk in the Aoraki Mount Cook National park for good reason. There's a really cool mix of terrain, it follows a massive flowing river, crosses multiple bridges and everyone on the track just always seems so friendly and welcoming. The hike itself is 5km each way, ending at the Hooker Lake with views up to Mt Cook, which is the highest mountain in New Zealand at 3,724 metres.
