Enduring Activity: Clinical Case Review: Common Psychiatric Diagnoses in the Oncology Patient Target Audience This activity is targeted towards primary care providers (internists, IM/P, and family practitioners). Statement of Need Many clinicians do not routinely follow clinical practice guidelines or are unaware of new treatment modalities which will result in improved health outcomes. Providing education opportunities in targeted areas as well as adult specialty areas should improve a physician’s knowledge base and patient outcomes. Objectives At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to: • Discuss the rationale for inclusion of psychiatric care in oncology programs. • Recognize normal emotions in response to stressors. • Describe supportive care approaches for individuals with oncologic illness experiencing an adjustment reaction. • Identify possible treatment approaches for individuals with psychiatric-oncology concerns including depression and anxiety.
