To quote a certain fuzzy haired car journalist “exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster”. So what is this witchcraft? A turbocharger’s purpose is to force air into the engine, hence the term ‘forced induction’. Inside a turbo are two impellers connected by a shaft, one is known as the ‘hot side’ which takes exhaust gases from the engine in order to rotate.
