Sound Blaster Hour of Power 2 - Great Dos Music - NintendoComplete

A new, long-overdue full hour of classic Sound Blaster PC tunes. Not a "Best of" nor a "Top 10" list, but rather a sampling of memorable, classic game themes. Hope you all enjoy it! All of the music was recorded directly from a 90s PC equipped with a Sound Blaster AWE32 CT2760 model - it's a hulking bit of plastic molded into a 14" long 16-bit ISA card that married wavetable synthesis with the SB16's genuine Yamaha OPL3 and loaded it up the wazoo with a bunch of MIDI-focused features to spice things up. It sounded fantastic, and is easily my favorite Creative Labs card for its versatility, compatibility, and overall synth quality in both OPL3 and AWE modes. It's a bit noisy, but the quality of the chip-generated music it puts out is hard to match, and the FM is virtually untouchable by any other Swiss Army knife-style sound card of the time. Sure, you could've spent absurd amounts on an MT32 back then to rock out at the expense of all digital sound in most games, or the Ultrasound with sweet music and midi capabilities butchered by its hideous SB compatibility in emulation mode, or you could've just bought a real SB that sounded good in most things, and was the only line of cards to be universally supported by software makers during Creative's reign over the Pre-Windows 95 era multumedia market. The AWE's wavetable is no slouch either, even if its bugged midi interface leaves something to be desired. The tracks are played in the following order, and all were recorded in SB16/Adlib modes (depending on what the game provided support for) in Dos 6.22: Total Carnage Altered Beast F29 Retaliator Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness Police Quest 2: The Vengeance Tempest 2000 Lotus III: The Ultimate Challenge Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger Summer Challenge Veil of Darkness Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Celtic Tales: Balor of the Evil Eye Super Street Fighter II Turbo Wacky Wheels The Simpsons Arcade Game The Legend of Kyrandia Star Wars: X-Wing Simon the Sorcerer Sam & Max Hit the Road Gods (uses FM and PCM) Prince of Persia Raptor: Call of the Shadows Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers Altered Destiny Spear of Destiny Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss Traffic Department 2192 Silpheed Abuse King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride The first volume of this fledgling series of Sound Blaster music can be found here:    • Sound Blaster Hour of Power - Great 9...   And if you enjoy 90s PC gaming, be sure to check out my playlist of playthroughs!    • PC Game Playthroughs   _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
