Living On The Upper East Side

The Upper East Side is known for being one of Manhattan's most elegant neighborhoods with streets from Park to Fifth Avenue conveying a very quiet elegant affluent ambience. It is a great neighborhood for those who want a breath of fresh air that feels miles away from the chaos of busier areas in the city. Real estate here includes some of the most luxurious properties in the world. Upper East Side means having anything you can imagine at your fingertips. Central Park makes for a "world class" backyard. The Upper East side features some of the city's most significant cultural institutions such as Frick, Metropolitan Museum of Art , The Cooper Hewitt, the Guggenheim and the Neue Gallery. Madison Avenue is Manhattan'[s Gold Coast for luxury shopping and fine art galleries. You will also find many fine dining restaurants here. World class hotels include the Pierre, the Carlyle, the Mark, Loews. Regency as well as the Plaza and others. Nightlife includes an evening at Bemelman's Bar, The Cafe Carlyle or the Mark Bar. The area east of Lexington Avenue to the East River offer gentler prices and a more low key lifestyle. There are many post war co-ops and a number of pre-war co-ops. There are tall condos that were built mainly in the 1980-s and later that offer views and more amenities than the co-ops. There also has been a flurry of new development condos recently and more on the way. These new condos are amenity rich offering a " country club-like " lifestyle. Food shopping in this area east of Lexington is abundant. There is Whole Foods, Citarella, Fairway , Elis and others. 86th Street has turned into a shopping mall featuring stores like Sephora, Ulta and Barnes and Noble. There are two movie theaters there as well. Carl Shurtz Park borders the East River and is the go to park for residents in this area! There is a East River walk that is around 9 miles long.
