DIY mens shirt refashion | Off the shoulder top

Grab some of those old shirts out of your boyfriend's / dad's buddy's closet and whip up this super simple, super flattering off the shoulder top in a couple of hours! You need -Your usual sewing supplies (tailor's chalk, pins, sewing machine, pinking shears or overlocker, fabric shears) -1 spool of shirring elastic -An oversized mens shirt in a lightweight fabric Steps 1. Find your yoke 2.Extend the lines of the yoke across the tops of the sleeves on both arms 3. Cut along that line. You need to cut off your collar at this stage! So, if the yoke line is higher than the bottom of your collar, just redraw your line lower. 4. Cut down the top of your sleeves 5. Press your neckline raw edges in by 1/2" and then again by a 1/2" before pinning into place. 6. Stitch down your neckline hem 7. Pin the front and back of your top together by matching up the shoulder seams and pinning into place. 8. Trim the tops of the sleeves so that they match and cut off the sleeve placket. 9. With shoulder seams still matched up and right sides together, seam along the top of your sleeve. 10. Hem your sleeve like you did your neckline. 11. Wind the shirring elastic onto your bobbin 12. Line up the right-hand side of your machine foot with the neckline hem stitching, stitch a straight line right the way around your top. 13. For further help on how to sew with shirring elastic, check out this blog post of ours: https://goo.gl/MMw68B 14. Line up the right side of your sewing foot with your first row of stitching with the shirring elastic. Stitch all the way around again. Repeat three more times until you have 5 rows of shirring elastic stitches. 15. Add two rows of stitches using the shirring elastic to your sleeve approx. 1.5" in from the hem. And that's it!! x Check out our sewing patterns and DIYs here: https://byhandlondon.com/ Follow us on instagram and share your makes with us here:   / byhandlondon
