The funnel tends to kill breakthrough ideas because you have to decide if you go on before trying... and a breakthrough idea will not be able to guarantee a return at this early stage! The key is to be able to experiment in a controlled environment, as soon as possible and with a limited cost, to be able to fail without consequences. Then we can see a failure not as a flop but as a method to learn and improve. This "pilot" culture will then allow us to make decisions about an improved idea that we will be able to better defend after experimentation... and not before.
