Premlataji, a 35-year-old resident of Bikaner, Rajasthan, went on from being a housewife who was hesitant to step out, to now educating, connecting community women with healthcare systems. This is the story of making better health a possibility for more people everywhere, by going back to the grassroots. 65% of all mortality in India is because of non-communicable diseases. Limited access to resources and economic challenges further the need for a community-based eco-system, an integral part of the Indian culture for centuries. Abbott, together with the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) developed a self-sustaining community-driven healthcare model that weaves itself into their way of life, making healthcare simpler, more accessible, and seamless in rural and urban-rural areas.
