Hikari, the Warrior - Octopath Traveler II (cello/piano cover ft.

"Save your flattery. It'll rust my sword." OK. A LOT WENT INTO THIS LOL. But before I forget--credits! Album art: the phenomenally talented and fellow Hikari stan LightSilverStar (  / lightsilverstar  . GO FOLLOW HER SHE IS THE BEST!! BEAUTIFUL ART SOB Mix/Mastering: Nick Spezia, who brought the whole sound of this to another level, it's insane! https://www.nickspezia.com/ Hikari was my starter, as was Andrew's, because I always start with the Warrior class, and I'm sure Andrew likes him a normal amount (I mean that unironically) but when I tell you it didn't take me long to become a full on simp for this 2D pixelated man. As in, throw me in the dumpster and set me on fire outside city limits levels of trash. I NEED ALL HIS CHAPTER MUSIC. ALL THE ALBUM ART. Of course his theme would be the very TOP of the list of stuff we had to arrange and i'm so thankful Andrew has merrily gone along with my insane hyperfixation lol. Hikari and really all of the kingdom of Ku has such a cool design in that it's a mix of ancient Chinese and Japanese styles--his outfit is a Ming Dynasty era hanfu over ninja/samurai gear, the fortress city is a Chinese thing, as is the huge throne room, and the color red for royalty. His first name is Japanese and the name Ku could be either (Kyu in Japanese). I thought to draw out this combination of influences by referencing both the major pentatonic (Chinese) and the minor pentatonic (Japanese), and a few trademark elements from a Japanese composer and a Chinese composer. Andrew had the idea to start with a high piano ostinato, which reminded me Joe Hisaishi's intro from Dragon Boy in Spirited Away, so I rewrote it in a similar fashion, plus used a few of his chord progressions. For the Chinese composer, I used some accompaniment textures from Tan Dun's score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, especially the pizz and tremolo effects for the lighter part, and the ONE THING I WAS ADAMANT ABOUT was that Andrew HAD to play a direct quote from the main theme and to do his best Yo-Yo Ma impression LMAOOOO. (At first he was like...isn't that ending a little long? I was like...BUT WHAT IF IT WAS SOLO CELLO!?!? lol) Anyways, I transcribed the bare bones theme and sent it to Andrew, who sent back a draft which envisioned a quieter intro to a bigger buildup. I admit I wasn't a fan at first, as I usually like to state the theme as is at the outset, then vary it in subsequent repeats. Had a dark night of the soul (ok not really lol) then I tried to work in both our ideas and honestly ended up LOVING IT IN THE END, so thankful that Andrew pushed the idea of a quiet intro and a funkier bass, big buildup in the middle, Yo Yo Ma at the end, etc, SERIOUSLY LOVE HOW THIS TURNED OUT AND HOPE YOU ALL DO TOO!!!! ❤️❤️ Andrew wore a mandarin collar shirt for the video and I was like well if he's repping the Chinese aspect of Hikari lemme see what I got to rep his Japanese aspect. Over a decade of cosplays I've made I had a choice between Lady Eboshi, Patroka Xenoblade, Kubo's depressed mom from Kubo and the Two Sttrings, Queen Mikoto from Fire Emblem Fates lmao 😂 Then I found a miko outfit I had made for my friend cosplaying Luka Urushibara from Steins;Gate, so I figured dressing like a Shinto shrine maiden would be the least crazy of all my options lmao. And I ended up getting into full Hikari AGAIN (btw I made a Hikari cosplay also) for a few subtle shots just because he's my boy and I had to and omg will be needing to remake that armor already ahaha it's not used to all this fine motor abuse 😂 all he really needs it for is killing lmao. This time we decided to hire one of Andrew's friends from Ocean Way Studios, Nick Spezia, a professional recording engineer, to do the mix/master for us and holy cow we were just blown away by how he made us sound! Seeing how games are getting churned out at lightning speed these days, we decided to shift our focus to a mix of both singles and albums. We still have a crap ton of Octopath 2 in the pipeline but we will reserve the character themes for an album and release the rest as singles. Having said that, our cover of Ku, Land of Scarlet Sunset is now on all streaming services, and Hikari is too! MORE OCTOPATH TO COME! no matter what games get released between now and whenever hahaha NOT EVEN FFXVI WILL STOP THE OCTOPATH TRAIN. And no i still have not finished the game, but soon! everybody's at level 90 lmao HIkari, the Warrior: https://songwhip.com/purpleschala/hik...
