Mirwaiz speaks at Jamia Masjid after four weeks of House Arrest

After 4 weeks, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir allowed to offer Friday prayers at Jama Masjid. The saddest part for me is being away from the pulpit of Jama Masjid. The policy of harassment also continues to be pursued. I am targeted, and even my family members are affected. People of Jammu and Kashmir have the first right to jobs in their land and should not be denied it on any pretext. I urge authorities to revisit this policy of harassment and discrimination. I hope that whoever comes to power takes a realistic and humane approach in dealing with the Kashmir imbroglio. The Hurriyat and I always believe the Kashmir issue must be resolved through dialogue for everlasting peace in J&K. Srinagar, May 31 : First of all, I want to pay homage to Shaheed-e-Millat, Shaheed-e-Hurriyat, and the martyrs of Hawal on their 34th and 22nd martyrdom anniversary, which was on May 21st. Because of my detention and the cordoning of Eidgah, we could not collectively pay homage to these martyrs at the Shaheed Mazar in Eidgah. Today, I am meeting you after four Fridays. As you know, I was again put under house arrest on May 3rd. For four years, they detained me continuously at home, and since September last year, when they released me, they keep detaining and releasing me again and again. It’s a strange situation. The saddest part for me is being away from the pulpit of Jama Masjid. Unfortunately, the policy of harassment continues to be pursued. I am targeted, and even my family members are affected. After a series of propaganda attacks in 2018 alleging me of ownership of properties belonging to Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, Auqaf Jamia, Darul Khair, and in random places here and there, all proving false and unfounded, now an FIR is lodged against me and my close kin, in which they claim that the land and house in which I live can be confiscated and I evicted. The land was purchased, and the house was built by Shaheed-e-Millat through proper legal documentation in 1973, the year I was born, and the boundary walls have remained the same since then. I am being alleged of malpractice in it! What can one say to this? My brother-in-law, a dedicated, honest, and respected senior civil servant, whom everyone, including them, knows, is also being harassed because of the relationship. Besides, the policy of seeking verifications and clearances from Kashmiris applying for jobs, passports, or identification cards is causing great stress and distress among people, especially the youth. People of Jammu and Kashmir have the first right to jobs in their land and should not be denied it on any pretext. We ask the authorities to revisit this policy of harassment and discrimination. By next week, a new government will be formed in India. We again hope that whoever comes to power takes a realistic and humane approach in dealing with the Kashmir imbroglio. As for me and Hurriyat, the option for dialogue and deliberation for moving forward is the best bet. It is the course that I and my colleagues advocate and have always practiced, even at the cost of harm to us. If lasting peace and progress of the people is our aim, our approach should also reflect it. I pray to Allah that He keeps all of you and me in His Aman and gives us the strength to stay steadfast. Meanwhile, Mirwaiz expressed grief and sorrow over the road accident of a bus full of pilgrims in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district, in which 22 people died and dozens were injured. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
