Shaolin Temple (少林寺) is a 1982 Chinese-Hong Kong martial arts film directed by Chang Hsin-Yen (张鑫炎) and starring Jet Li (李连杰) in his debut role. The film was shot at the Shaolin Temple. It is estimated to have sold over 300 million tickets at the Chinese box office, and is considered one of China's highest-grossing films ever when adjusted for inflation. The film's had a major impact on the promotion of Chinese martial arts and largely responsible for turning the Shaolin Temple into a major tourist destination, both within China and internationally. Shorinji Kempo (少林寺拳法, meaning "Shaolin Temple Boxing Methods") was created by the Japanese soldier and martial artist So Doshin (宗道臣), (born Nakano Michiomi (中野道臣)), in 1947.
