木六駄　あらすじ 主人は山ひとつ向うの、都に住む伯父へのお歳暮として、炭を六駄と木を六駄、それに上等の樽酒を届けるよう太郎冠者に命ずる。雪の降る山中、荷を積んだ十二頭の牛を追い、ようやく峠の茶屋にたどり着いた太郎冠者は酒を所望するが、あいにく茶屋が酒を切らしていたので、届けるはずの樽酒に手をつけ、茶屋と酌み交わすうちに全部飲み干してしまう。更に酔った勢いで木六駄まで茶屋にやってしまい、太郎冠者は残りの炭六駄をのせた牛を引いて伯父のもとへ行くのだが…。 Six Loads of Firewood ( Original title : Kirokuda ) At the end of the year, Taroukaja’s master sends a gift to his uncle who lives in Kyoto, expressing his gratitude for the past year. It’s a huge amount: 6 ox-loads of firewood and 6 ox-loads of charcoal, as well as barrelled sake. This is the story of how Taroukaja, a servant, tries to carry out the harsh task of delivering this gift all by himself. The actor playing Taroukaja acts out driving 12 oxen through the snow using only a whip. The highlight is watching him fight with the disobedient oxen in the middle of the heavy snow. He at long last makes it to a tea shop along a mountain pass, but when he orders a drink, the staff tell him that they’re out of stock, and he drinks the precious gift of barrelled sake that he had brought with him. Taroukaja also treats the people at the tea shop to the sake. They make quite a scene singing, dancing, and being merry, and they drink every last drop. He leaves the six ox-loads of firewood at the tea shop and heads to Kyoto with only the six ox-loads of charcoal. When the uncle sees the list of gifts, he points out that the six ox-loads of firewood and the barrelled sake aren’t there, but Taroukaja plays dumb.
