The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will commemorate the 97th Anniversary of the birth of the Most Honourable Michael Manley, ON, OM, OCC, Former Prime Minister of Jamaica with a Floral Tribute at the National Heroes Park on Friday, December 10, 2021. A delayed broadcast of this event will be streamed on the JCDC’s website and social media pages beginning at 6:00 p.m. Persons laying tributes include: The Honourable Olivia Grange, CD, MP, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport; Senator the Honourable Thomas Tavares- Finson, OJ, CD, QC – President of the Senate representing the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, ON, PC, Prime Minister; Mr. Mark Golding, Leader of the Opposition; Dr. Dayton Campbell, General Secretary of the People’s National Party; Mr. Joseph Manley, Son of the Most Honourable Michael Manley and Mr. Granville Valentine, CD, JP, General Secretary of the National Worker’s Union. The Most Hon. Michael Norman Manley, O.M., P.C., B.Sc. (Econ,), LL.D. (Hon.) served as the fourth Prime Minister of Jamaica from March 2, 1972 – November 4, 1980, and February 13, 1989 – March 30, 1992. His impact on the nation included a greater sense of importance and urgency regarding national identity; while internationally, he has impacted the ideas of capitalist and socialist leaders with his advocacy of Democratic Socialism.
