Piper Meridian (4K), ICY Climbout to FL210, IRIDIUM downloaded satellite weather

Takeoff from Augsburg (EDMA) through a icing layer of clouds for a 1 hour and 50 minutes flight to sunny Cannes Mandelieu Airport (LFMD) on the Côte d'Azur. This is the first "family-long-distance" flight with the brandnew installed G1000 NXi. Everything is working fine except the heating of the stall warning. Weather in Augsburg was 9°C and rainy, icing was predicted between FL70 and FL100. We are testing inflight the new IRIDUM downloaded satellite weather. Every 10 minutes latest weather data along our routing are displayed as an overlay into the MFD's moving maps. Anti icing was activated before flying into the icing levels and the boots did their job and blasted off a thin ice layer on the leading edges of the wing. Watch the black deicing boots pumping movements on the leading edges (11:13). It took a little longer to get rid of the ice at the horizontal stabilizer as you can see looking out the rear passenger windows. It is important to check the amount of icing on the horizontal stabilizer to prevent the gap between the exposed outer portion of the elevator and the boot-equipped elevator from freezing up. To prevent a blocked elevator you have to disengage the autopilot and periodically shake the yoke slightly to loosen icing between the unprotected leading edge of the elevator and boot segment of the stabilizer. Pilot: Markus Riedel
